Steering Group member and chair of the Education, Skills and Innovation Working Group at Blockchain Ireland, Prof O’Connor was recognised for her work in IT to promote gender equality, youth employment, and in addressing the ICT specialist gap in Ireland and Europe.

Prof O’Connor is a driving force in Block W, a network creating awareness and fostering inclusivity around blockchain and disruptive technologies.

Women 4IT is a multi-stakeholder partnership funded by the EEA Grants and the Norway Grants Fund for Youth Employment, and is supported by nine partners from across Europe and various sectors. The project is being implemented in seven countries: Greece, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Romania and Spain and supported by two expert partners: The European Centre for Women and Technology and DIGITALEUROPE.

Women4IT says it aims to raise awareness about digital skills and the gender gap, and to promote concrete, innovative partnerships and solutions to increase the numbers of EU girls and young women in the digital agenda.

“I am honoured to be the recipient of the Women4IT Ambassador Award in my capacity as cofounder and chair of BlockW,” said Prof O’Connor. “It is a great honour to receive this award, and a privilege to work with Lucia Manicini and her colleagues to include more young women in the digital economy and to  help achieve gender equality in the digital industry.”
